Ride the Hurricane Ride Report

On August 5th I did the Ride the Hurricane which allows you to ride to the top of Hurricane Ridge without cars on the road! I borrowed my dad's Cannondale Six13 road bike, swapped my wheelset because it had more favorable gearing, and eagerly awaited the day.

On the way there we noticed Fat Smitty's was open so we stopped.

I received my burger in good time but somehow they forgot the rest of our order and we waited, and waited, and waited. :( This wasn't the best first impression for my wife.

After wandering around Port Angeles we had dinner at Bella Italia. My wife said the restaurant was mentioned in the Twilight series but I had no clue. I just wanted a beer and some pasta. Wyatt wasn't exactly cooperating and I had the most frustrating dinner I've had in awhile. The final straw was when he feigned a hug and bit my nipple. I don't know if I can completely blame him. His only nap was in the car on the highway and I don't know if he had much lunch.

Back at the hotel room I gathered up all my riding stuff and put it in the bathroom so wouldn't wake the baby when I got ready in the morning. I didn't know what to expect so I had all sorts of extra cold weather gear. I had decided to ride to the starting point which was a nice warmup. I met a fellow TN Multisport athlete and we were off. I quickly found out that I needed more gears. :) The road immediately went uphill and stayed that way pretty much the whole way.

Upon finishing the ride I'm glad I did it. When we got above the fog and clouds the view was amazing. I also had the pleasure of smelling the wildflowers as I rode by them.
