I'm feeling pretty low today. I went for a bike ride to try and help that but it didn't work. I had forgotten that my clips were ruined from Lake Stevens 70.3 so I ended up riding to the bike shop. After some waiting while they put new cleats on my shoes I cycled back up 30th street and out toward Pt Defiance. That's when I started really bumming out. I sank lower and lower as I considered my 2008 through 2011 half-iron performances.
My 2008 Lake Stevens 70.3 time haunts me because it's still my best 70.3 time. It wasn't stellar by any means at 5:47 but I haven't beaten my half-iron debut yet! 2009 Boise 70.3 I did 6:17 due to weather and stomach problems. 2010 I took off to help with the birth of my first child. 2011 Honu 70.3 I got 5:55 which is a generally tough race due to heat, etc... and I felt like that was a good showing. Rev3 Portland was 5:50 with me being sick on a flat course. I should be happy coming back after a year off. I've had some solid under 6 hours efforts this year! But I'm not...
The recent Lake Stevens 70.3 relay I did showed me that I beating that time was in reach this year! I managed a 4 minute faster cycling time on the same course. I felt great getting off the bike so a 2 hour 13.1 was probably in the cards. I swam a 38:41 at Rev3 Portland and a 44:00 (I know it's gross) so I wouldn't be losing time there. Even a mediocre performance would have netted about 5 minutes and a new PR. Oh well. What married with child age grouper has time or money for three 70.3's in a season anyway. :(
